To check, users first need to scan the QR code on a smartphone using apps like Alipay, WeChat or QQ. After the application is registered with the phone, users are instructed to enter their name and identification number. Xinhua reported that each registered telephone number can be searched with three different identification numbers.
The source has not disclosed details about how the application is likely to determine exposure. According to Cnet, this app will identify and recommend that users should stay home if they have ever been in close contact with someone who has or has had symptoms of the coronavirus.
The China National Health Commission (NHC) defines close contact to include people who work together, study in the same class or live in the same home. Medical personnel or passengers on public transport suspected of the presence of people with coronavirus are also applied as potential cases.
It is known that this application was co-developed by the State Council Office, NHC and China Electronics Technology Group with the support of a number of government agencies.
